Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine postgraduate theses conducted in Türkiye on exercise addiction through a bibliometric approach and to reveal the research trends and conceptual structure of the field. In this context, postgraduate theses retrieved from the YÖKTEZ database using the keyword “exercise addiction” were included in the analysis. The distribution of theses by year, type, research method and keyword structures were evaluated using descriptive statistics and visual analyses. The R program was used for co-occurrence networks. According to the findings, a total of 97 postgraduate theses on exercise addiction were completed between 2015 and 2025, including 6 doctoral dissertations and 91 master’s theses across various disciplines. Keyword analyses indicate that the concept of exercise addiction is strongly associated with sport, fitness and physical activity. In addition, the structure of keyword co-occurrence networks demonstrates that the exercise addiction literature is largely centralized around a core concept, while its associations with psychosocial and contextual variables remain limited. The findings indicate that postgraduate research on exercise addiction in Türkiye has primarily focused on exercise, sport, physical activity, and psychological variables, and that the field has developed across multiple disciplines.
