Abstract

There are insufficient studies examining children and adolescents' attitudes toward physical activity based on sociodemographic variables. Therefore, we aimed to examine children and adolescents' attitudes toward physical activity based on age, gender, active sports participation, parental education, and family income. There were 248 girls and 238 boys, totally 486 students aged from 9 to 14 (X̄=11.95 Ss=1.40) years voluntarily accepted to participate in this study. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were used for checking validity of the scale. Results showed that scale had 7 positive and 5 negatives, totally 12 items which was the same like the original scale. In reliability analysis, Cronbach alpha coefficient value and test-retest method were utilized. Results of Cronbach alpha showed that positive (0.85), negative (0.80) sub-domains and total (0.89) scores were within the acceptable level and scale had high internal coefficient level. Test-retest results indicated that positive (0.87), negative (0.83) sub-domains and total (0.86) scores were higher than acceptable scores. As a conclusion, the scale which has been adapted to Turkish context is valid and reliable tool for measuring children’ and youth’s physical activity attitude.
