Abstract

Today, artificial intelligence (AI) is leading to fundamental transformations in various aspects of advertising and marketing. This transformation raises new debates in the context of ethical principles, social responsibilities, and cultural values. While AI-based algorithms' capacity to analyze consumer behavior and deliver personalized content contributes significantly to communication processes, it also brings ethical issues such as privacy violations, social inequality, and the limitation of individual autonomy. The limited transparency of algorithms and biases based on past data sets can lead to increased digital injustice and social polarization. Social sustainability is a holistic approach that encompasses not only environmental awareness but also dimensions such as inclusiveness, social justice, and collective well-being. Structuring the use of AI in advertising within an ethical framework requires the development of a communication model that is compatible with the general interests of society, beyond the protection of individual rights. In this context, it is important that all stakeholders—companies, advertisers, algorithm developers, and regulatory bodies—act with a sense of collective responsibility. AI applications based on ethical principles safeguard individual rights through criteria such as transparency, data security, algorithmic accountability, and sensitivity to discrimination, contributing to the creation of a more inclusive, fair, and trust-based digital ecosystem. Considering the impact on vulnerable groups in particular, ethical design principles must be approached from a social responsibility perspective. This study discusses the ethical dilemmas arising from the rapid integration of AI in advertising and its impact on social sustainability, emphasizing the importance of a trust-based and sustainable approach to advertising.
