Abstract

This study aims to investigate whether teaching through a web-based teaching platform affects the attitudes of pre-service teachers towards Braille. The research was conducted using a single-group pre-test-post-test design. The study group consisted of 34 pre-service teachers. During the implementation process, pre-service teachers carried out various activities through a web-based Braille teaching platform. The application was implemented through a web-based Braille teaching platform offered online. The platform includes six modules related to Braille teaching. The Braille (Embossed) Writing Attitude Scale and a Personal Information Form were used as data collection tools. For data analysis, an independent samples t-test was applied for variables with two categories, and a Kruskal-Wallis H test was applied for variables with more than two categories. At the end of the study, the researchers concluded that the post-test mean scores of the pre-service teachers in the study group were higher than their pre-test mean scores. Furthermore, the researchers found a statistically significant difference between the pre- and post-test scores. The calculated effect size indicated a high impact. In subgroup analyses, they found no statistically significant difference in the attitude scores of the pre-service teachers across all variables (gender, having a visually impaired acquaintance in the immediate vicinity, having an acquaintance who uses Braille, general knowledge of Braille, field of study, daily computer use time, and daily internet use time) considered. In conclusion, it can be said that prospective teachers have a positive attitude towards Braille and have developed more positive attitudes in this direction. The researchers discussed the research findings within the framework of the existing literature, and they presented some recommendations.
