Abstract

This study aims to examine the extent to which Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) skills are included in the Social Studies Curriculum (SBÖP) in achieving the "competent and virtuous human profile," the primary goal of the Turkey Century Education Model (TYMM), and the theoretical contribution of these skills to the program's field skills (SBAB) within the framework of Daniel Goleman's Emotional Intelligence Model. This study adopted a qualitative research approach and utilized document analysis as the data collection technique. Data were thematically categorized using content analysis to establish conceptual bridges between the two models. The analysis results demonstrated that TYMM considers SEL skills as a "Cross-Program Component" and integrates them into the Social Studies program in an integrated manner. The study revealed a direct and structural overlap between the five core components of Goleman's emotional intelligence model (Self-Awareness, Self-Regulation, Motivation, Empathy, Social Skills) and the SDBs in the Emotional Intelligence Model (ETM) and the values in the Virtue-Value-Action Framework. This overlap demonstrates that the Model's vision of common sense, common sense, and good taste gains a scientific framework through Goleman's concrete competencies. Furthermore, the cognitive achievement-enhancing effect of SEL on Field Skills is explained through four theoretical pathways: enhancing cognitive capacity and focus through impulse control; holistic integration enabling the translation of skills into action; improving learning experiences through collaboration and communication skills; and supporting ethical judgment and higher-order thinking skills through responsible decision-making. The results demonstrate that SEL plays a critical higher-order competency role in achieving ETM's goals and offer concrete recommendations for teacher education.
