Abstract

This study presents a bibliometric analysis of research on lattice structures fabricated via 3D printing, utilizing data from the Web of Science database. The search criteria were restricted to records containing "3D printing" in the topic and "Lattice Structures" in the title, covering the period from 2015 to 2025. Through the analysis of annual publication distributions, the temporal trends of scientific output regarding 3D printed lattice structures were revealed. The results indicate that the field was in a nascent stage during 2014–2015 but gained significant momentum by 2016. A robust and continuous growth is particularly evident after 2020; annual publications exceeded 70 starting from 2021 and surpassed 100 in both 2023 and 2025. This sharp increase suggests that lattice structures have evolved from a "niche" topic within additive manufacturing into a mainstream research area. Overall, the bibliometric trends demonstrate a rapidly growing interest over the last decade, driven by potentials in lightweight design, energy absorption, and advanced functional applications. The analysis further implies that research activity has not yet reached saturation, suggesting that lattice structures will remain a highly active and evolving field in the near future.
