Abstract
The main purpose of this study is to analyze the phenomenon of nudity, which has spread simultaneously with the processes of modernization, secularization, and digitalization and gained legitimacy through liberal discourses of freedom, through the normative value system of the Qur'an. In the present day, where visual culture has gained dominance, the human body has been detached from its biological and private context, moved into the public sphere, and transformed into an object of consumption through capitalist consumer culture. The study argues that this transformation is not merely an aesthetic preference, but carries the potential for a structural crisis that threatens the ontological integrity of the individual, the structure of the family, and social morality. In particular, social media erodes the quality of haya (modesty) by feeding the desire to be constantly visible and narcissistic tendencies, dragging the human being from the level of ashraf al-makhluqat (the noblest of creatures) down to the level of mere biological impulses. The theological ground of the research is based on the Qur'anic perspective, which approaches covering (veiling) not as a cultural habit, but as an ontological necessity of human fitrah (innate nature). Referencing the story of Adam and Eve in Surah Al-A'raf, nudity is defined as a deviation from innate nature and a spiritual decline, while covering is defined as a sign of civilization that bestows dignity upon humans and as a "garment of taqwa" (piety/God-consciousness), which serves as a moral armor. In Qur'anic epistemology, covering is interpreted not as an element that restricts the individual, but as a realm of freedom that protects the body from commodification and visual harassment. The study also establishes phenomenological similarities between bodily exposure practices in the modern era and the rituals of the pre-Islamic Jahiliyya period. In this context, modern nudity is read as the reproduction of archaic impulses in modern forms, while covering is presented as a civilizational evolution. In light of the obtained findings, the study proposes a three-axis strategy for Muslim societies: a) A privacy education based on the dignity of the body and innate nature, b) Critical media literacy that deciphers the exploitation mechanisms of the fashion industry, c) The construction of an alternative and aesthetic fashion culture that is not reactionary. Consequently, the study questions the freedom promised by the discourse of modern nudity and presents the practice of covering proposed by the Qur'an as a rational and moral choice that protects the human's spiritual dignity.
Özellikle sosyal medya, sürekli görünür olma arzusunu ve narsisistik eğilimleri besleyerek hayâ özelliğini aşındırmakta, insanı eşref-i mahlûkat seviyesinden salt biyolojik dürtü düzeyine çekmektedir.
