Abstract
The History of Graphic Design course offered in higher education is one of the core courses that constitute the cultural, historical, and intellectual foundation of design education. The course’s dense content structure, limited class time, and visually oriented nature create a need for a planned instructional design that supports students’ processes of visual analysis, comparison, and interpretation. This study aims to propose a digitally supported flipped learning-based course and material design for the History of Graphic Design course. The research was structured through qualitative document analysis and a design-oriented model development approach. The data of the study consisted of sources related to graphic design history education, art and design education, digital learning, flipped learning, and course design in higher education, as well as selected course information packages. The examined documents were evaluated in relation to content density, the need for visual analysis, student participation, pre-class preparation, in-class interaction, post-class reinforcement, the instructional function of digital materials, and preparation monitoring. As a result of this evaluation, a three-stage course design consisting of pre-class preparation, in-class visual analysis, and post-class reinforcement was developed. The model was concretized through a digital material set prepared for the topic of Futurism in the History of Graphic Design course. The study offers an applicable framework for digital material design that supports visual analysis, period-based comparison, and student participation in the History of Graphic Design course.
