Abstract

Creative accounting is the presentation of accounting information in financial statements by businesses, by taking advantage of certain flexibilities permitted within legal boundaries, based on the wishes and priorities of those preparing the information rather than the stakeholders’. In this context, the subject of the research has been defined as creative accounting. Those most frequently confronted with the issue of creative accounting are accounting professionals. Given that accounting professionals are the ones who prepare and present financial information, the purpose of this study is to examine accounting professionals’ approaches toward creative accounting. As the research data was collected from the province of Eskişehir, the province of Eskişehir constitutes the geographical scope of the study. Since the data were collected in the second half of November, this period defines the time scope of the study; in addition, since the study focuses solely on creative accounting, this notion constitutes the thematic scope of the study. The research data were analyzed using the SPSS data analysis program. Differences between groups were examined based on descriptive variables. Out of the 15 hypotheses formulated according to the research topic and objective, 3 were accepted and 12 were rejected. As a result, the study revealed that there were no significant differences among groups in terms of creative accounting and its sub-dimensions, indicating that the groups generally share similar approaches toward creative accounting.
