Abstract

Aim: This study aims to identify trends in academic output, thematic focuses, and methodological characteristics by examining the bibliometric features of graduate theses on the use of white noise with children in Türkiye. Materials and Methods: A bibliometric analysis method was used in this descriptive study. The data were obtained from a search conducted at the Higher Education Council’s National Thesis Center. A total of 34 graduate theses conducted in the field of health, involving child participants and employing an experimental design, were examined. The theses were evaluated in terms of year, thesis type, university, department, research objective, research design, sample group, data collection tools, and research setting. Results: It has been determined that research on white noise began in 2006, showed a marked increase particularly after 2019, and reached its peak in 2022. The majority of these studies were conducted at the master’s level, at public universities, and in the field of nursing. The research has primarily focused on the neonatal period; the most frequently examined variables have been pain, physiological parameters, sleep, feeding, and comfort. The studies predominantly utilized randomized controlled experimental designs and standardized measurement tools, and the majority of the research was conducted in neonatal intensive care units. Conclusion: The findings indicate that studies on white noise have largely been limited to newborns. It has been determined that research targeting different populations, such as preschool children and individuals with special needs, is insufficient; furthermore, areas such as long-term developmental outcomes, behavioral regulation, and parent–infant interaction have been addressed only to a limited extent. Gaps regarding variables requiring standardization—such as intervention duration, frequency, and sound level—are notable.
