Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the predictive role of emotional awareness (clarity of feelings, repair of mood and attention to feelings) and mindfulness on romantic relationship satisfaction in university students. Whether the relationship satisfaction levels of the students differed according to the gender and the number of relationships was also examined. The study group consists of a total of 325 students who continue their education in a public university located in a metropolitan city in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. Data were collected using Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, Trait-Meta Mood Scale and the Relationship Assessment Scale. Results showed that clarity of feelings, attention to feelings and mindfulness significantly predicted relationship satisfaction while emotion regulation did not. Results revealed a significant difference in romantic relationship satisfaction scores regarding previous relationships. As emerging adults' levels of mindfulness, attention to feelings, and emotional clarity increase, their relationship satisfaction levels increase.
