Abstract
This study aims to examine which components constitute working capital management under different macroeconomic conditions and how periodic priorities change. In this regard, quarterly data from 2014Q1–2025Q3 for 17 companies operating in the Textiles, Clothing, and Leather sector on the Istanbul Stock Exchange are used, and three distinct sub-periods are considered: pre-pandemic, pandemic, and inflationary periods. The criteria of accounts receivable turnover, inventory turnover, accounts payable turnover, cash/assets ratio, cash/current assets ratio, and cash conversion cycle are objectively weighted using the ENTROPY and CRITIC approaches from multi-criteria decision-making methods. The findings indicate that prior to the pandemic, the ENTROPY method shows differentiation between companies based on inventory and account receivables turnover, while the CRITIC method highlighted account payable turnover as a structural balance factor in the working capital structure. During the pandemic period, ENTROPY results show that differentiation between companies occurred through account payable turnover and cash ratios, while CRITIC findings reveal the structural importance of account payable turnover period and the critical role of account receivables turnover. During the inflationary period, the ENTROPY method shows that differentiation between companies occurred through the receivables turnover and cash conversion, while CRITIC results reveal that the commercial debt turnover retained its structural and systemic importance. In this context, this study offers policy recommendations for working capital elements across all periods.
