Abstract

This research is about the research of RTÜK (Radio and Television Supreme Council) and TİAK (Television Audience Research Committee) on “Media and Violence” in Turkey. While the researches on “Media and Violence” primarily focus on impact researches, this research aims to understand what is done to solve the researches about violence. Based on the fact that violence in media is a general problem of society, the study aims to examine what the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), which is the leading authority in Turkey regarding “Media and Violence,” has done to prevent violence and to analyze the studies conducted in this direction. The “Document Analysis” method was used among the qualitative research methods. In this context, RTÜK and TİAK researches conducted between 2020-2024 were analyzed. In light of the documents examined in the research, a large part of the audience in Turkey thinks that violence in television broadcasts has increased and is concerned about media violence. On the other hand, it is seen that a large part of the audience is fed by mainstream media channels in the “prime time” period. It has been seen that RTÜK has conducted various studies on this subject, such as conferences, declarations, research reports, and public opinion polls. When RTÜK and TİAK studies are compared, it has been determined that although the majority of the society stated that violent content in the media has increased, they consume media content that includes violence.

Buna karşın izleyici kitlenin büyük bir bölümü “prime time” zaman diliminde ana akım medya kanallarından beslendiği görülmektedir. RTÜK’ün bu konuda konferans, bildiri, araştırma raporu, kamuoyu yoklaması gibi çeşitli çalışmalar yaptığı görülmüştür. RTÜK ve TİAK araştırmaları karşılaştırıldığında, toplumun büyük çoğunluğunun medyadaki şiddet içeriklerinin arttığını ifade etmesine rağmen şiddette konu olan medya içeriklerini tükettikleri tespit edilmiştir.
