Abstract
University campuses have open spaces that accommodate users with different social, cultural and physical characteristics. Each individual using the campus may have different transport preferences for various reasons. The concepts of pedestrian priority and accessibility are of great importance when planning roads within the campus. In recent years, the importance of pedestrian priority and accessibility issues has increased in our country and the steps taken on these issues have been increased. In this research, it is aimed to improve the new road, which has served as a main artery within Bingöl University campus since 2020, in terms of pedestrian use and accessibility. Prior to the research, the deficiencies of this main artery in terms of accessibility and pedestrian use were identified and photographed. In order to evaluate the physically determined deficiencies in terms of users, a total of 378 people, including 28 academic/administrative staff and 350 students, were surveyed on the ‘Evaluation of the Yeni Nizamiye Yolu of Bingöl University Campus in terms of Pedestrian and Handicapped Accessibility’. Pedestrian and vehicle movements were observed to strengthen the survey findings. As a result of the studies, the area was found to be inadequate in terms of pedestrian priority and accessibility. The survey revealed that there are insufficient accessible facilities for pedestrians in the area. The sub-dimension of pedestrian comfort and safety has a high positive correlation with the sub-dimensions of the suitability of pedestrian crossings, adequacy of accessible facilities and driver behaviour. The observations reveal the situations where vehicles ignore pedestrians and pedestrians' preference for the shortest and most comfortable walk. Finally, an optimisation project was proposed based on the findings and the metod of tactical urbanism.
Özet
Üniversite yerleşkeleri farklı sosyal, kültürel ve fiziksel özelliklere sahip kullanıcıları barındıran açık alanlara sahiptir. Yerleşkeyi kullanan her birey çeşitli nedenlerden farklı ulaşım tercihlerine sahip olabilirler.
