Abstract

This study examines the role of landscape-based camouflage strategies in managing spatial visibility and ensuring strategic area concealment in intelligence operations. Modern intelligence activities require not only information-gathering processes but also the effective use of concealment and camouflage techniques in physical areas. In this context, the study addresses the concept of camouflage from the perspective of landscape architecture, evaluating how environmental integration contributes to intelligence and security strategies. A qualitative method was adopted in the research, and an interdisciplinary literature review was carried out. The historical development of camouflage, its relationship with art and architecture, its integration into landscape architecture, and its use in the context of ecological sustainability were analyzed. In particular, elements such as natural cover, topographic forms, color-texture harmony, and perceptual strategies were discussed in terms of how they serve area concealment for both military and civilian intelligence purposes. The study reveals that camouflage is not only a tool for military defense or environmental aesthetics but also a strategic instrument for intelligence-based area protection and visibility management. In addition, it emphasizes that landscape-based camouflage practices offer new opportunities in the context of sustainable urbanization, climate adaptation, and green infrastructure systems. Thus, this research provides an original contribution to the literature on intelligence studies with its focus on the spatial design dimension.
