Abstract

This research analyzes 57 studies published between 2020 and 2024 that examine the use of gamification in physical education, aiming to identify current research trends, thematic concentrations, and the conceptual structure of the field. Studies retrieved from the Web of Science database were evaluated using descriptive statistics, bibliometric techniques, and social network analysis (SNA). The findings indicate a steady increase trend in publication frequency over the examined years, with the majority of studies published as journal articles. Analysis of micro subject areas reveals a strong focus on self-regulated learning, while concepts such as motivation, physical activity, and technology integration emerge as central in both keyword co-occurrence networks and SNA centrality measures. Country-level analysis shows that Spain leads the field in terms of publication and citation volume, supported by increasingly dense international collaboration networks. SNA results further demonstrate that core concepts cluster into distinct thematic groups, suggesting the gradual development of a shared conceptual framework within the gamification literature. Overall, the findings highlight the potential of gamification to enhance motivation, engagement, and learning outcomes in physical education, while underscoring the need for further research on long-term effects, age-specific differences, and context-sensitive gamification design.

Özet

Bu araştırma, 2020–2024 yılları arasında beden eğitimi öğretiminde oyunlaştırma yaklaşımını ele alan 57 çalışmayı analiz ederek alanın güncel eğilimlerini, tematik yoğunlaşmalarını ve kavramsal ağ yapısını ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Web of Science veri tabanında gerçekleştirilen tarama sonucunda seçilen çalışmalar, betimsel istatistikler, bibliyometrik analiz ve sosyal ağ analizi (SNA) teknikleriyle değerlendirilmiştir.
