Abstract

Over the last decade, it has been observed that numerous studies have been conducted by economists, political scientists, and sociologists on the definition and measurement of social capital. This has been largely motivated by academic and political interest in social capital's capacity to explain spatial differences in economic and institutional performance. It is possible to say that most of the previous research on social capital has focused on definitions, measurement problems, or the outcomes of social capital. Call centers can present stressful work environments that are prone to burnout for employees due to their structural characteristics, such as high workload, performance pressure, the requirement for emotional labor, and intensive supervision mechanisms. In this context, the nature of the psychological bond employees established with the organization and their network of social relationships play an important role at both the individual and organizational levels. This study aims to systematically examine the effects of social capital perceptions on organizational identification among call center employees in Diyarbakır. The research was conducted with 207 employees using a convenience sampling method, and the data were analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling. The results indicate that the structural (β=0.517; p<0.001) and cognitive (β=0.371; p=0.004) dimensions of social capital have positive and statistically significant effects on organizational identification, whereas the relational dimension (β=-0.139; p=0.322) does not exert a significant impact. The findings emphasize the importance of focusing on structural and cognitive elements of social capital to strengthen employees’ organizational identification and sense of belonging.
