Abstract

This study aims to examine the ecological and physical destruction of cities under war through a theoretical framework through their works in 21st century art. Cities have been destroyed both physically and ecologically due to wars throughout history. This destruction of cities due to war until the 21st century is included in the theoretical section of the text. In this theoretical section, the fragile relationship of cities under war with the ecological environment in which they are located is also determined. Within the scope of the research, 21st century art and current wars are associated with examples from certain artists in the context of city and ecology. The works were evaluated on the basis of war, ecology and city axis by using the descriptive analysis method with a qualitative research approach. In the research, it was seen that the ongoing wars in our age were handled on the axis of urban and ecological destruction by artists from different disciplines. Throughout the research, it shows that the urban and environmental destruction caused by the concept of war throughout history has never ended and that this problematic has become more inextricable with technological developments. As a result, this research reveals that the urban, ecological and social problems created by the war are conveyed to the audience by today's artists through different production styles. The research contributes to the literature on the evaluation of the ecological and urban destruction caused by the war in the works of today's art.
