Abstract

This study examines the transformation produced in urban space by post-war migration processes through the concept of “spatial rupture”particularly in the context of the social and culturel reconstruction of post-war cities. Spatial rupture is addressed not merely as physical destruction or reconstruction, but as a multilayered transformation involving the social production of space, ideological restructuring, and relational reconfiguration. It also involves the reshaping of social relations. The theoretical framework is grounded in Lefebvre’s theory of space, and a qualitative analytical method is employed to examine selected works by Doris Salcedo, Mona Hatoum, and Ai Weiwei within the axes of public space, borders, displacement, and collective visibility, considering their social and culturel contexts. The findings indicate that art does not simply represent spatial rupture aesthetically rather, it functions as an active intervention that produces political visibility, rights claims, and collective memory within the public sphere. It contributes to the reshaping of the social transformation. Consequently, the post-war city is interpreted as a multilayered field of negotiation and struggle at both structural and representational levels.
