Abstract
Following the Prophet Muhammad’s migration (Hijra) to Medina, residential units were constructed adjacent to the Prophet’s Mosque (al-Masjid al-Nabawi) to accommodate his wives. These dwellings are referred to in the Qur’an as “the houses of the Prophet” (Qur’an 33:53). Among these, one belonged to ʿĀʾisha and was directly contiguous to the Prophet’s Mosque. This particular space is distinguished from the others in that revelation was received there, the Prophet spent the final days of his life there, and it was the place where he passed away and was subsequently buried. It is also noteworthy that ʿĀʾisha continued to reside in this space until her death, a circumstance that constitutes a remarkably rare precedent with few, if any, parallel examples. This study aims to examine the architectural, historical, and functional characteristics of Āʾisha ’s house. In this context, the study adopts a microhistorical approach, focusing on a limited spatial setting and a specific historical period. It comparatively evaluates classical Islamic sources alongside modern academic studies. This study reveals that Āʾisha ’s house, originally a simple residence, gradually assumed the character of a sacred site of visitation, a transformation influenced by both architectural interventions and shifting social perceptions throughout history.
Özet
Hz. Peygamber, Medine’ye hicretinin akabinde Mescid-i Nebevî’nin yanında eşlerinin ikamet edebileceği meskenler inşa ettirmiştir. Âişe’ye ait olup Mescid-i Nebevî’ye bitişiktir. Mezkûr mekân, Resûlullâh’a vahyin burada gelmesi, hayatının son günlerini burada geçirmesi, burada vefat etmesi ve aynı yere defnedilmesi itibariyle diğerlerinden ayrılmaktadır. Hz.
