Abstract

ABSTRACT The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys, is an invasive pest species that causes significant damage to many agricultural and forest plants. Although the use of pesticides in pest management is widespread worldwide, this method is not considered a sustainable and long-term control strategy. Within the framework of integrated pest management, various methods are applied against this pest. Among these methods, traps containing aggregation pheromones are widely used both for monitoring the population dynamics and biology of the pest and for direct control. In this study, the effectiveness of two different pheromone types was compared using modified funnel-type traps installed at 10 different locations during the period from May to October 2022. The pheromone types tested were the American-origin PHEROCON® (Trécé) and the Costa Rica-origin Smart Lure P460 (ChemTica). When the two pheromone types were compared, a total of 13645 insects were captured with the Costa Rican-origin pheromone, whereas 14829 insects were captured with the American-origin pheromone during the active period of the pest. Based on the inspections carried out twice per week, the average number of insects captured per trap was 1364.5 ± 174.37 for the Costa Rican-type pheromone and 1482.9 ± 247.89 for the American-type pheromone. The responses of the pest to both pheromone types were found to be very similar, and no statistically significant difference was detected between them. Therefore, it is recommended that the pheromone type that is more accessible and more cost-effective should be preferred. .
