Abstract

This study examines Temel Hazıroğlu’s participatory economy approach within the context of management science and explores its theoretical contributions to a human-centered, ethics-based, and holistic understanding of management. Contemporary organizations are increasingly evaluated not only by their economic performance but also by their social responsibility, employee well-being, and ethical orientation in response to globalization, digitalization, and rapid technological transformation. This shift has intensified criticism of traditional management paradigms that primarily regard human beings as inputs in production processes. Performance-, efficiency-, and competition-oriented approaches often overlook individuals’ search for meaning, moral values, and social relationships in organizational life. Hazıroğlu’s participatory economy approach offers an alternative perspective by repositioning individuals as moral, social, and value-creating actors rather than merely economic resources. The approach argues that economic activities should not be reduced solely to profit generation but should be guided by principles such as justice, solidarity, responsibility, and the common good. Participation is conceptualized not only as involvement in managerial decision-making but also as a comprehensive process encompassing access to information, voice, shared responsibility, and collective engagement. The study discusses the theoretical connections between participatory economy and key management concepts, including inclusive leadership, organizational justice, human dignity, stakeholder theory, and sustainable governance. It is argued that participatory economy has the potential to transform organizations from performance driven entities into institutions that prioritize social benefit and uphold human dignity. Ultimately, this study contributes to management literature by offering a value-centered perspective and encouraging the reconsideration of organizations through ethical, sustainable, and inclusive principles.
