Abstract

Abstract Social information processing skills refer to the cognitive stages that explain how children evaluate situations they encounter in social environments and the types of decisions they make based on these evaluations. The successful execution of social information processing steps is closely related to social competence and adaptation. This study aims to examine the use of social information processing processes by preschool teachers in daily activities. The study was conducted using a qualitative research method with 23 preschool teachers, utilizing a semi-structured interview form. The data were analyzed using the content analysis method. The findings revealed that teachers most frequently addressed social information processing processes during activity time and preferred interaction-oriented activities such as play and drama. The most commonly used method was found to be modeling; however, it was observed that teachers limited the diversity of materials used. It was determined that children particularly needed support during the activity process and in the stage of interpreting behaviors. The study highlights the need for teachers to increase their awareness and training regarding social information processing processes. In this context, the importance of more comprehensive material and activity planning to support children's social and emotional development is emphasized.
