Abstract

Migration is a highly complex and inhomogeneous phenomenon. At the end of the 20th century, Spain became a country of immigration and the growing registered immigrant population approached 6 million. International migration has become a structural fact of Spanish society rather than a temporary or circumstantial social phenomenon. The purpose of this article is to evaluate how the social cohesion policies of international immigrants have evolved since Spain's membership to the European Union (EU) and how the policies followed have an impact on the social cohesion of immigrants from equality perspective, in which areas and to what extent. According to the results of this study, the impact of changes in Spain’s immigration policy on the social cohesion of immigrants is mediocre. However, important constraints appear in certain policy areas, especially when it comes to ensuring stable compliance in the long run. In this regard, within the scope of content analysis methodology, branch of qualitative analysis approach, such as the analysis of essential written documents on migration and integration policy, which shall be considered the most suitable political tools, researches in the international literature and comparative indices are also used.
