Investigation of Tolerance Perceptions of Fourth Grade Elementary School Students Through Pictures

Abstract
The aim of this research is to understand the tolerance perception of fourth- grade primary school students, of the events that happen around them, which they will meet with tolerance and which they won’t. 21 primary school fourth-grade student participated in this study. In the choice of working group, typical case sampling method, which is one of the purposeful techniques, has been chosen. The data of the research were collected through semi-structured interviews conducted after the tolerance themed lesson with students and interpretation of the pictures made by the students. The data obtained in this study, which was carried out by using phenomenology, which is one of the qualitative research designs, was analyzed with content analysis technique. As a result of the study, the fourth grade students describe to tolerance helping each other, respect, ignore, be nice to someone and forgiveness. Students state that they won’t tolerate any intentional behaviours, yet they will tolerate any unintentional negative behaviours.
Özet
Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilkokul dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin hoşgörü algılarının ne olduğunu, çevrelerinde yaşanan olaylardan hangilerini hoşgörü ile karşılayıp; hangilerini hoşgörü ile karşılayamayacaklarını anlamaya çalışmaktır. Araştırmaya ilkokul dördüncü sınıfa devam eden 21 öğrenci katılmıştır. Çalışma grubunun seçiminde amaçlı örnekleme tekniklerinden tipik durum örnekleme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri öğrencilerle yapılan hoşgörü temalı dersin ardından gerçekleştirilen yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmelerle ve öğrenciler tarafından yapılan resimlerin yorumlatılması ile toplanmıştır. Nitel araştırma desenlerinden fenomenoloji kullanılarak gerçekleştirilen bu çalışmada elde edilen veriler içerik analizi tekniği ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucunda dördüncü sınıf öğrencileri hoşgörüyü; yardımlaşma, saygı duyma, görmezlikten gelme, birine iyi davranma ve affetme olarak tanımlamışlardır. Öğrenciler kendilerine kasıtlı olarak yapılan davranışları hoş göremeyeceklerini belirtirken, kasıtlı olarak yapılmayan olumsuz davranışları hoş görebileceklerini ifade etmişlerdir.
