EFFECTS OF IMAGES IN DEVELOPMENT OF SPEAKING SKILLS

Abstract

This study is intended to investigate the impact of visuals on improvement of verbal skill gains specified in the curriculum of Turkish lessons. In order to identify the impact of visuals on verbal skills, content analysis was used for qualitative data. The study was conducted in two 6th grade classes of a state school during the first semester of 2013-2014 educational year, using proportionate random sampling method. According to the qualitative findings of the study; average time of a verbal skill for the students of the first group was 3.2 seconds, while this figure was 1.3 seconds for the second group. Students of the first group generated 440 words, while this figures was 238 inthe second group. In this context, it can be said that using visuals contributed to the improvement of the verbal skill.

Özet

Bu araştırmada, Türkçe dersi öğretim programında belirlenen konuşma becerisi kazanımlarının görseller kullanılarak geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Görsellerin konuşma becerisi üzerindeki etkisini belirlemek amacıyla araştırma; nitel araştırma yönteminden eylem araştırması olarak desenlenmiştir. Araştırma bir devlet okulunun iki altıncı sınıf şubesinde 2013- 2014 eğitim- öğretim yılının birinci döneminde, oranlı tesadüfi (random) örnekleme yöntemi kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Araştırma bulgularına göre; birinci grup öğrencilerinin konuşma becerisi süre ortalaması 3.2 sn. olarak gerçekleşirken, aynı süre ikinci grupta 1.3 sn. olarak belirlenmiştir. Birinci grup öğrencileri toplamda 440 adet kelime üretirken, ikinci grup; 238 kelime üretmiştir. Bu ğlamda, kullanılan görsellerin konuşma becerisini geliştirdiği ifade edilebilir.
