THE VIEWS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELLORS ON THE PERFORMANCES OF SCHOOL PRINCIPALS IN THE MANAGEMENT OF GUIDANCE SERVICES

Abstract

In this study, the views of psychological counsellors on the performances of school principals in the management of guidance services were investigated. The research group consisted of 24 psychological counsellors and guidance who were in-service in the provinces of Hatay. The data of the research were collected through the qualitative research method. The data were obtained with a semi-structured interview form and they were classified with the content analysis. According to the findings of the research, the psychological counsellors claimed that school principals exhibited the highest performance in the administration of guidance services on the implementation of guiding principles. The principals also demonstrated more performance in the implementation of the regulations and the taking of decisions related to the psychological counselling and guidance services. The principals have the supportive role in providing of necessary resources for guidance services. According to the findings of the research, principals cannot demonstrate effective managerial leadership in the management of vocational guidance and referral services, in the coordination and supervision of psychological counselling and guidance services. The results gathered from this research showed that the management of psychological counselling and guidance services for schools are generally taken into consideration together with the teaching, and psychological counsellors direct it rather than principals. Psychological counselling and guidance services cannot be evaluated as students' personal development practices. Considering the results of the research, in the management of psychological counselling and guidance services, the application of "process-oriented management approach with the understanding of team" was recommended

Bu çalışmada okul müdürlerinin rehberlik hizmetlerinin yönetimine ilişkin performansları konusunda psikolojik danışman görüşleri değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu Hatay, Yozgat, Erzurum, Erzincan, Mersin illerinde görev yapan 24 psikolojik danışman ve rehber oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmanın verileri nitel araştırma yöntemiyle toplanmıştır. Veriler yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu ile elde edilmiştir ve içerik çözümlemesi ile veriler sınıflandırılmıştır. Araştırma bulgularına göre, psikolojik danışmanlar, okul müdürlerinin rehberlik hizmetlerinin yönetiminde, en yüksek performansı, rehberlik ilkelerinin uygulanması konusunda sergilediklerini belirtmektedir. Müdürler, ayrıca psikolojik danışma ve rehberlik hizmetleriyle ilgili kararların alınması ile yönetmeliğin uygulanmasında daha fazla performans göstermektedir. Müdürler, rehberlik hizmetleriyle ilgili olarak gerekli kaynakların sağlanmasında destekleyici bir rol üstlenmektedir. Araştırma bulgularına göre, müdürler, mesleki rehberlik ve yönlendirme hizmetlerinin yönetiminde, psikolojik danışma ve rehberlik hizmetlerinin koordinasyonu ve denetiminde etkili yönetsel liderlik sergileyememektedir. Bu araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlar, okullarda psikolojik danışma ve rehberlik hizmetlerinin yönetiminin; genel olarak öğretim işleriyle birlikte ele alındığını ve müdürlerden çok psikolojik danışmanlarca yönetildiğini göstermektedir. Okullarda psikolojik danışma ve rehberlik hizmetleri öğrenci kişisel gelişim uygulamaları olarak değerlendirilememektedir. Araştırma sonuçları doğrultusunda, psikolojik danışma ve rehberlik hizmetlerinin yönetiminde, "ekip anlayışıyla süreç odaklı yönetim yaklaşımı" uygulaması önerilmiştir
