TOLERANCE WITHIN THE INSTRUCTIONAL PROGRAM FOR GEOGRAPHY COURSE

Abstract

Helping individuals procure the value of ‘tolerance’ bears paramount significance in order to maintain and sustain peace and tranquility in the world, composed of people with different race, language, religion, gender, and socio-economic features. The advance of democratic, economic, social, and cultural aspects of life and practice of human rights throughout the entire planet have to pass through the path of tolerance education, in one way or another. Tolerance education is too broad a concept to restrict within the borders of some courses or programs. Therefore, this research examines the instructional program for Geography Course via tolerance education glance. One of the qualitative research methods, document analysis has been employed in this study. Distilled from this research is the fact that most outcomes regarding tolerance education are enclosed within the learning domain of Human Systems, and the least are scattered in Natural Systems. Furthermore, some outcomes and activities have been noted as opportunities for tolerance education.

Özet

Hoşgörü; doğruluk değerlerini dikkate almadan toplumda farklı dil, cins, din, inanç ve düşüncelerin de bulunabileceğini kabul etme, bunlardan rahatsızlık duymama ve saygılı olma halidir. Geçmiş de olduğu gibi bugün de hem ülkemizde hem de dünyada huzuru ve barışı sağlamada hoşgörüye, hoşgörü eğitimine ve demokrasi eğitimine büyük ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Tüm dünyada demokrasilerin, ekonomik, sosyal ve kültürel yaşamların gelişmesi ve insan haklarının hayata geçirilmesi hoşgörü eğitiminden geçen ve sonuçta yine hoşgörüye giden yollar olarak görülmektedir. Hoşgörü eğitimi belli derslerle ve programlarla sınırlandırılamayacak kadar önemli bir konudur. Bu nedenle çalışmada öğrencilere hoşgörü kazandırmada coğrafya eğitiminin yerini ve önemini ortaya koyabilmek amacıyla Coğrafya Dersi Öğretim Programı hoşgörü eğitimi açısından incelenmiştir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman analizi kullanılmıştır. Coğrafya Dersi Öğretim Programı’nda hoşgörü eğitimi ile ilgili kazanımların çoğunlukla Beşeri Sistemler, en az ise Doğal Sistemler öğrenme alanlarında olduğu görülmüş ve kimi kazanım ve etkinliklerin hoşgörü eğitimi için bir fırsat oluşturabileceği tespit edilmiştir.
