Abstract

Financial analysis helps to understand the current situation of businesses from various perspectives. In this framework, the liquidity status of companies is among the most important indicators because it reveals the possibility of the repayment of short-term debts. Traditionally, three liquidity ratios are observed in businesses: current ratio, acid-test ratio and cash ratio. However, factors such as the dynamic nature of current assets and short-term liabilities and accounting practices may require the calculation of some other liquidity ratios. In this study, the recent annual reports of 36 companies selected from the sub-categories of the manufacturing sector (cement, paper and paper products printing, basic metals, machinery, electrical devices and transportation) were examined. It was observed that the companies mostly preferred traditional liquidity ratios in liquidity analysis. On the other hand, they included other liquidity ratios to a limited extent.
