14. yüzyılın ortalarında başlayıp 19. yüzyılın sonlarına kadar devam eden klasik Türk edebiyatı, birçok şair yetiştirmiştir. Çok sesli ve oldukça renkli bir edebiyat ortamının oluşmasında şüphesiz Osmanlı Devleti’nin kültürel dokusu ve geniş bir coğrafyada sürdüğü hükümranlık etkili olmuş, Osmanlı Devleti’nin çok kültürlü toplum yapısının inşasını da kolaylaştırmıştır. Bu çok kültürlülük ortamı Erşed mahlasıyla şiirler yazan Vâsık-zâde Abdülhamid’in yetişmesine de ortam hazırlamıştır. Eserlerini Divançesinde toplayan şairin hikâyesini, yazar Doç. Dr. Talip Çukurlu’nun kaleminden çıkan Dîvânçe-i Erşed çalışmasıyla öğreniyoruz.
