Abstract

The moral thought of Aristotle, known as the founder of ancient Greek thought with his teacher Plato, is the result of a new understanding of philosophy that he tried to establish against Plato. As a result of this opposition, Aristotle develops an idea of morality quite different from his teacher’s views on morality, human action and what is good. In Aristotle, morality is mostly about how to create some basic habits in the human soul. In this sense, the morality of human action is related to one’s choosing and performing the right thing in each action context. However, Aristotle’s view of human action and its morality, which is connected to a teleological view of nature and world and explains the physical within this teleological structure, should be evaluated in this context. In this sense his moral thought must be considered together with his larger system of physical reality. Therefore, in Aristotle, the morality of human action is closely related to the determination of what is “good” for human beings in this teleological system. In this direction, in this study, it will be discussed how Aristotle grounded moral action in the context of his thoughts on human action, good and virtue, and some basic concepts of his moral thought will be discussed.

Özet

Antik Yunan düşüncesinin, hocası Platon’la birlikte kurucusu olarak bilinen Aristoteles’in ahlak düşüncesi, Platon’a karşı kendisinin kurmaya çalıştığı yeni bir felsefe anlayışının sonucudur.
