Abstract

Aim: In this study, it was aimed to determine the nutritional awareness of intensive care nurses. Method: The descriptive study was conducted with intensive care nurses working in adult intensive care units of hospitals located in a province in the western part of Turkey (n=143). The data of the study were collected using a questionnaire consisting of questions to determine the socio-demographic and professional characteristics of intensive care nurses, The Psychometric Properties of the Turkish Version of the Assessment Questionnaire of the Importance of Nutritional Assessment, the Level of Knowledge and Perceived Quality of Nutritional Care for Nurses. Results: The mean age of the nurses participating in the study was 29.68±6.50 years, 76.9% of them were female, 68.5% of them were undergraduate graduates, 67.1% of them had been working as intensive care nurses for 1-5 years, 23.8% of them work in the internal intensive care unit. 58.7% of the nurses stated that nutrition was included in in-service training, 51.7% stated that there was a nutrition support team in the institution where they worked, 42.7% of them stated that the nutritional assessment of the patients in the intensive care unit was done by the physician, 61.5% reported that they used the Nutrition Risk Screening 2002 nutritional assessment form, and 37.1% reported that the most obstacle to the application of nutritional support in the intensive care unit was the excessive workload. The mean score of the nurses regarding the Importance of Nutritional Assessment was found to be 24.06±3.08, the mean score of Knowledge of Nutritional Care was 29.72±3.62, and the total mean score of Perceived Quality of Nutritional Care was found to be 30.60±4.25. Conclusion: Although intensive care nurses have positive attitudes towards nutritional assessment, their knowledge levels and perceived nutritional care quality are not sufficient. The nutritional support team, the nutrition nurse and the use of the nutritional assessment measurement tool positively affect the perceived nutritional care quality of the intensive care nurses.

Özet

Amaç: Bu araştırmada yoğun bakım hemşirelerinin nütrisyonel farkındalıklarının belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı nitelikteki araştırma, Türkiye’nin batı bölgesinde bir ilde bulunan hastanelerin erişkin yoğun bakımlarında çalışan yoğun bakım hemşireleri ile gerçekleştirildi (n=143). Araştırmanın verileri, yoğun bakım hemşirelerinin sosyo-demografik ve mesleki özelliklerini belirlemeye yönelik sorulardan oluşan anket formu, Hemşirelerde Nütrisyonel Değerlendirmenin Önemi, Nütrisyonel Bakıma İlişkin Bilgi Düzeyi ve Algılanan Nütrisyonel Bakım Kalitesini Değerlendirme Ölçeği kullanılarak toplandı. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan hemşirelerin yaş ortalaması 29,68±6,50 yıl, %76,9’u kadın ve %68,5’i lisans mezunu, %67,1’i 1-5 yıldır yoğun bakım hemşiresi olarak görev yapmakta, %23,8’i dahili yoğun bakımda çalışmaktadır. Hemşirelerin %58,7’si hizmetiçi eğitimlerde nütrisyon konusuna yer verildiğini %51,7’si çalıştığı kurumda nütrisyon destek ekibinin bulunduğunu, %42,7’si çalıştıkları yoğun bakımda hastaların nütrisyonel değerlendirmesinin hekim tarafından yapıldığını, %61,5’i Nütrisyonel Risk Tarama Formu 2002 nütrisyonel değerlendirme formunu kullandıklarını, %37,1’i yoğun bakımda nütrisyon destek uygulamasına en çok engel olan durumun iş yükü fazlalığı olduğunu bildirmiştir. Hemşirelerin Nütrisyonel Değerlendirmenin Önemine ilişkin puan ortalaması 24,06±3,08; Nütrisyonel Bakıma İlişkin Bilgi Düzeyi puan ortalaması 29,72±3,62 ve Algılanan Nütrisyonel Bakım Kalitesine ilişkin toplam puan ortalaması 30,60±4,25 olarak bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Yoğun bakım hemşirelerinin nütrisyonel değerlendirmeye yönelik olumlu tutumları bulunmakla birlikte nütrisyonel bakıma ilişkin bilgi düzeyleri ve algıladıkları nütrisyonel bakım kaliteleri yeterli değildir. Nütrisyon destek ekibi, nütrisyon hemşiresi ve nütrisyonel değerlendirme ölçüm aracı kullanımı yoğun bakım hemşirelerinin algıladıkları nütrisyonel değerlendirme bakım kalitesini olumlu etkilemektedir.
