Abstract

Educational materials used in anatomy laboratories are an atlas of anatomy, special computer programs, ready-made models, and all cadavers and their parts fixed with formaldehyde and stored with fresh frozen or special methods. There are biological and chemical risks arising from the use of cadavers in anatomy laboratories. Determining the risks and the measures to be taken against these risks will contribute to the creation of safe workplaces and the development of a biosafety culture. In this review, PubMed, DergiPark, Google Scholar databases were searched over the Marmara University internet access network. Keywords were determined according to the MeSH evaluation criteria. The search terms “anatomy”, “biosafety”, “formaldehyde”, “formaldehyde exposure” were used. It was concluded that an anatomy laboratory should meet at least Biosafety Level 2 standards. Room, personal protective equipment, application and decontamination recommendations were made.
