Abstract

Water is a basic requirement for living organisms to sustain life and is also a chemical compound necessary to produce all kinds of services and products today. This wide area of the water use highlights the concept of water footprint. In this study, data were collected from the relevant literature and reports. This study aims to examine the concepts emerging with the use of water today and to examine and compare the water footprint of beef production in Turkey and the world. Simultaneously, in the relevant literature, suggestions for reducing the water footprint caused by beef; it has been determined that individuals change their diet, inform the consumer, change the preferred meat type, obtain animal products from grazing systems and artificial meat. In the last part of this study, these suggestions to reduce the water footprint in beef production are evaluated.
