Abstract

Objective: This study was carried out to evaluate the perception of old age, depression and quality of life of those living in nursing homes.Materials and Methods: The sample of the descriptive study consisted of 42 elderly individuals over the age of 65, living in a nursing home, without cognitive problems such as dementia, and who agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected by sociodemographic form, WHOQOL-OLD-TR, AYTA-TR, Geriatric Depression Scale, between December 2017-May 2018. The findings obtained in the study were evaluated with the IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0 program. The significance level was evaluated as p<0.05.Results: 73.8% (31) of the participants in the study are male, 54,8% are 65-74 years old, 71.4% have financial income and 66.7% stay in nursing homes voluntarily. The mean WHOQOL-OLD-TR score was 67.64±10.10, the mean AYTA-TR score was 79.02±9.62, and the mean GDS score was 11.64±6.4. A statistically significant correlation was found between WHOQOL-OLD-TR scores and GDS total scores (p<0.01).Conclusion: It is seen that the old age perception and quality of life of the elderly in nursing homes are positive, but more than half of them tend to have depression. It has been determined that quality of life and depression affect each other.

Özet

Amaç: Bu çalışma, huzurevinde yaşayan bireylerin yaşlılık algısı, depresyon ve yaşam kalitelerinin değerlendirilmesi amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı tipteki çalışmanın örneklemini, huzurevinde yaşayan 65 yaş üstü, demans gibi bilişsel sorunları olmayan ve araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 42 yaşlı birey oluşturmuştur. Çalışmanın verileri, Aralık 2017-Mayıs 2018 tarihleri arasında sosyo-demografik veri formu, Dünya Sağlık Örgütü Yaşam Kalitesi Formu, Avrupa Yaşlanma Tutumu Anketi, Geriatrik Depresyon Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Çalışmada elde edilen bulgular IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0 (IBM SPSS, Türkiye) programı ile değerlendirilmiştir. Tüm analizlerde anlamlılık p<0.05 düzeyinde değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan yaşlı bireylerin % 73.8’i (31) erkek olup, %54.8’i 65-74 yaş aralığındadır.
