Abstract

In today's different markets where competition is experienced at global dimensions, visual media advertisements have an important effect on reaching the target audiences of organizations. Institutions try to reach the consumer at every stage of the life cycle. Visual media advertisements have a great impact, especially in children. It plays a role both in the present and in the future, as it shapes the preferences, behaviors and attitudes of children. In this classic review, current studies were analysed using the keywords “ television, pediatric obesity, food, advertisement” in Pubmed, Science Direct, and Web of Science databases. When the studies are examined, many problems such as physical inactivity, weight gain, psychosocial problems, sleep disorders, deterioration of the diet habits, increase in unhealthy food consumption can be observed as the time spent by children in front of the screen increases. One of the advertisements that children are most affected by are those with food content. It has been shown that advertisements especially for chocolate, candies, fast food and packaged products affect children more than others. Many studies have reported that visual advertisements influence children's perceptions, food choices and consumption, and that all these problems pose a risk in terms of obesity. It is thought that the risks can be minimized by increasing the practices that encourage physical activity, the correct use of technology and increasing the level of knowledge. In this study, children's exposure to advertisements on TV, their effects on food preferences, childhood obesity and potential negative consequences were examined.

Özet

Gıda sanayinin giderek büyüdüğü ve rekabetin küresel boyutlarda yaşandığı bugünlerde üreticilerin hedef kitlelerine ulaşmada görsel medya reklamları önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. Kurumlar tüketiciye yaşam döngüsünün her aşamasında ulaşmaya çalışmaktadır.
