Abstract

The climate of instrumentality is an individual behavior in which the employee who has economic concerns acts with the view of “self-serving”. There are various studies in which the instrumentality climate scale is used. However, it was observed that the number of items in the scale and the expressions representing the items used in these studies were different, and the implicit structure of the scale was not confirmed. Therefore, the need to measure the relevant phenomenon more accurately has emerged. Accordingly, the aim of the research is to adapt the Instrumentality Climate Scale (Victor & Cullen, 1988) to Turkish by ensuring its validity and reliability. In this context, 203 employees based in Kocaeli participated in the research, and as a result of the factor analysis, a measurement tool consisting of seven items and a single factor and explaining 82.5% of the total variance was adapted. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis, it was revealed that the model showing six items and a single factor had good fit index values (x²/df=1.80; RMSEA=.06; GFI=.97; CFI=.99; SRMR=.01). In addition, it was determined that the scale provided convergent and divergent validity. As a result, it can be stated that the scale adapted to Turkish is a reliable and valid measurement tool.
