Abstract

Positive results have been obtained for eating disorders patients with cognitive-behavioral treatment (CBT) interventions. CBT for eating disorders was first used in the treatment of bulimia nervosa (BN) patients. Subsequently, treatment strategies were expanded. However, the standard CBT was updated and took the form of enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT-E) since only about half of the patients have remitted with CBT implying the need for additional treatment mechanisms. The purpose of this review is to examine the theoretical framework and the effectiveness of CBT-E in the treatment of BN. Articles about the effectiveness of face-to-face CBT-E that are published in Pubmed, Ebscohost, and Google Scholar databases in the last 20 years were included. Keywords in the English and the Turkish languages as “enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy for bulimia/bulimiya nervozada geliştirilmiş bilişsel davranışçı terapi”, and “enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy/geliştirilmiş bilişsel davranışçı terapi” were searched. Twenty-three of the 18.905 studies were included in the review following the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The articles obtained were collected under four main topics: using only CBT-E, comparing different forms of CBT-E, comparing with CBT and CBT-E, and studies comparing psychotherapies other than CBT with CBT-E. In these studies, it is seen that CBT-E is effective on outcome measures such as BN, depression and anxiety symptoms, stress, and level of quality of life in BN cases. CBT-E provides positive and faster results compared to other therapies, but this advantage weakens in the long run. These results support the effectiveness of the current transdiagnostic CBT-E approach.

G-BDT’nin etkinliğini sunmak amacı ile, Pubmed, Ebscohost, Google Akademik veri tabanlarından son 20 yılda, “bulimiya nervozada geliştirilmiş bilişsel davranışçı terapi”, “geliştirilmiş bilişsel davranışçı terapi”, “enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy for bulimia”, “enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy” anahtar kelimeleri ile BN tedavisinde G-BDT’nin yüz yüze kullanıldığı etkinlik makaleleri derlenmiştir.
