Abstract

Pectoralis major myocutaneous flap has wide clinical usage in plastic and reconstructive surgery especially in head and neck reconstruction. In our clinic, 35 pectoralis major myocutaneous flap were used in 34 cases whom presented with defects in different areas between 1996 September and 2002 September. Flap was used in head and neck defects following tumour excision in 15 cases, for reconstruction of pharyngocutaneous fistulas in 5 cases, partial or total oesophageus reconstruction in 3 cases and fistula reconstruction in one case who had oesophageus reconstruction previously, reconstruction in 4 cases have full-thickness flap necrosis following neck dissection, in 5 cases have anterior thoracal wall defects following tumour ablation or pace-maker reaction and for reconstruction of the deltoid function in one case presented with a large defect on the shoulder caused by gunshot. Flaps were transferred as composite osseocutaneous flaps (PMOMF) in two cases and the others were transferred as myocutaneous flaps (PMMF). In this article, patients were inspected retrospectively and the clinical usage of the flap, aesthetic and functional results and postoperative complications were evaluated.
