Abstract

Results between sutured and conservatively followed simple hand lacerations in preschool age patients are compared. 95 hand lacerations in 90 preschool age patients between 1 and 6 years old who registered Ankara NnumuneResearch Training Hospital Emergency Service between January 2002 and January 2003 are included. Patients were compared according to the final apparence of scars, pain and duration oftreatment. Pain was scored 35 for the sutured group and 29 for the conservatively treated. Final apperance of scars were 2.2 for the sutured group and 2.5 for the conservatively treated which wasn't found statistically'significant. Duration oftreatment were 12 and 6 days for the sutured and conserativelyfollowed patients respectively. Treatment of simple hand lacerations in preschool age pediatric patients yields better results in pain and lasts much less, but final apperance wasn't found to be superior to the sutured group.
