Abstract

Purpose: To compare the clinical efficiency of Olopatadine Hydrochloride %0.1 (Patanol) with other antiallergic drugs Ketorolac Tromethamin (Acular), Lodoksamide Hydrochloride (Alomide), Diclofenak Sodyum (Voltaren), Sodyum Spoglumat+İsospoglumat (Naaxia), Antazolin Phosphate+Nafazolin Hydrochloride (Alergophthal) in the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. Methods: Fifty cases of allergic conjunctivitis with a history of hay fever, asthmatic bronchitis or dermatitis who showed symptoms and signs of itching, hyperemia, mucous discharge and tearing were included in this study. Patients were divided in groups consisting of ten persons who received Olopatadine Hydrochloride for one eye and one of the following drugs, Ketorolak Tromethamin, Lodoksamid hydrochloride, Diclofenak Sodyum, Sodyum SppgluBaat+Isospoglumat or Antazolin Phosphate + Nafozolin Hydrochloride in the other eye. Results: Olopatadine Hydrochloride provided a relief in the itching and hyperemia symptoms and signs of acute allergic conjunctivitis in a short duration of time and a relief for a long time but was not effective in vernal conjunctivitis. Lodoksamide Hydrochloride would be more effective in such cases. Conclusion: Olopatadine Hydrochloride would be preferred in the treatment of acut allergic conjunctivitis because of its rapid onset of efficiency, provides a relief for a long time and easy to use.
