Abstract

Purpose: To investigate visual improvement and complications according to IOL location in secondary IOL implantation.Material and Method: The study group included 36 eyes of 33 patients (16 women, 17 men, the mean age of all patients is 63 years) who have been applied secondary IOL implantati¬on between January 2001-June 2004. In our study the patients had been operated for the reasons which were 4 traumatic, 1 secondary and 31 senile cataract. There was enough posterior capsule support in 13 patients'eyes which have been settled posterior chamber IOL with sulcus fixation (Group 1). 6 patients had no enough capsuler support;then we have settled anterior chamber IOL (Group 2) and the last 7 patients have been settled with transskleral fixation posterior chamber IOL (Group 3). All the patients have routine preoperative and postoperative ophthal-mologic inspections; achieved visual acuity and complications have been noted down. We de¬termined visual improvement criterion as the difference between achieved postoperative visual acuity and preoperative visual acuity. We have investigated visual improvement and complica¬tions after the mean 7.6 month follow-up time. Results: We have reached the target visual acuity in all of the patients of Group 1, in %92 patients of the Group 2 (12 patients), and %69 patients of the Group 3 (11 patients). The visual acuity gain was not statistictically different in the groups. Temporary uvea reactions and pupil irregularity were the most frequent complications and there was no difference statistictically between the complication frequency of the groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: Secondary IOL implantation is preferred because of visual acuity improve¬ment, comfortable binocular vision and less complication.lt doesn't make up any effect on visual improvement and complication according to IOL location.

Özet

Amaç: Sekonder göz içi lens implantasyonu (GİL) yapılan olgularımızda yerleştirilen GİL lokalizasyonu açısından görsel başarı ve komplikasyonların değerlendirilmesi. Yöntem: Ocak 2001- Haziran 2004 tarihleri ara'sında Şişli Etfal Eğitim ve Araştırma Has¬tanesi (ŞEH) II.
