Abstract

Purpose: Retrospective evaluation of the clinical characteristics of the pediatric cataraci patients, our surgical approach and the surgical outcomes in our clinic and to outline the curreni approach on pediatric cataracts. Method: The records of patients who underwent pediatric cataract operation between Maj 1993 and April 2004 in Beyoğlu Eye Research and Training Hospital, and who were followed up regulary, were retrospectively examined. The cases were evaluated with respect to age of surgery, concomitant ocular and systemic abnormalities, operation technique, complications, re¬sultant visual acuities and refractive errors, and optical rehabilitation modalities. Results: A total of 77 eyes of 47 patients (17 unilateral, 30 bilateral) were operated. The mean age of surgery was 6.27 ± 4.59 years, duration of follow-up was 42.16 ± 18.24 months. Best corrected visual acuity was evaluated in three separate age groups and significant improve¬ment was detected (p

Özet

Amaç: Kliniğimizde pediatrik katarakt tanısıyla öpere edilen olguların klinik özellikleri, cerrahi yaklaşımımız ve sonuçlarımızın retrospektif incelenmesi ve pediatrik kataraktlara güncel yaklaşımın belirlenmesi. Yöntem: Beyoğlu Göz Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesinde Mayıs 1993 ve Nisan 2004 ara¬sında pediatrik katarakt tanısıyla öpere edilen ve düzenli kontrollerine gelen 47 hastanın 77 gözüne ait kayıtlar retrospektif olarak incelendi. Olgular; cerrahi yaş, eşlik eden oküler ve sistemik anomaliler, uygulanan operasyon tekniği, komplikasyonlar, son görme keskinlikleri, sonuç ref-raksiyon kusurları ve optik rehabilitasyon açısından değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Pediatrik katarakt tanısı ile 77 göz (17 unilateral, 30u bilateral olmak üzere top¬lam 47 hasta) öpere edildi. Cerrahi yaşı ortalama 6.27 ± 4.59 yıl, takip süresi ortalama 42.16 ± 18.24 ay idi. En iyi düzeltilmiş görme keskinliği yaş gruplarında ayrı ayrı incelendi ve anlamlı artış saptandı (p
