Abstract
Acute renal failure following angiography is usually due to radiocontrast nephropathy; however, cholesterol embolism should be kept in mind when making the differential diagnosis. Cholesterol embolism is a multisystem disease, usually seen in elderly men who have severe atherosclerosis. In this case report, we describe a patient with cholesterol embolism who had a typical clinical history of progressive renal failure. We hope that this case report will emphasize the importance of this overlooked syndrome.

Anjiyografi sonrası rastlanılan akut böbrek yetmezliğinin ayırıcı tanısında öncelikle radyokontrast nefropatisi düşünülse de, kolesterol embolisinin ayırıcı tanıda bulunması gerektiği unutulmamalıdır. Kolesterol embolisi, yaygın aterosklerozu olan yaşlı, erkek populasyonda sık görülen, multisistemik bir hastalıktır.Koroner anjiyografi sonrası renal fonksiyonlarında bozukluk tespit edilen ve tedrici olarak böbrek yetmezliği ilerleyen bir olgu sunumu ile kolesterol embolisi sendromuna (KES) dikkat çekmek istiyoruz. Ayırıcı tanıda bazen gözden kaçsa da ilerleyici böbrek yetmezliğine yol açabilen bu durum unutulmamalıdır.
