Abstract

The experiment was conducted to determine the effect of mycorrhiza inoculation on plant growth, yield and fruit quality of tomato plants grown in greenhouse conditions and to determine the efficiency of different doses of Symbion VAM (mainly Glomus fasciculatum) as mycorrhiza source. The study was done in soil under PE covered greenhouse, belongs to Agrobest Group, in Gaziler Village (Kepez-Antalya) during the autumn-winter season of 2013 and Olgun F1 tomato cultivar was used as plant material. Three different doses of Symbion VAM were used as trial subjects: recommended dose (D, 1.0 kg da-1 ), half of recommended dose (D/2, 0.5 kg da-1 ) and two fold of recommended dose (Dx2, 2.0 kg da-1 ) and non-inoculated plants (0.0 kg da-1 ) were put on trial as control group. Symbion VAM was applied only one time to seedlings hole before transplanting and all plants were transplanted on August 15, 2013 as 2 plants per m2 . The production was stopped on January 07, 2014 when plants reached to the 7th truss. The experimental design was randomized parcel with 4 replicates and parameters related to plant growth, yield and fruit quality were determined. The results showed that root infection rate increased with Symbion VAM inoculation and in parallel with this increase plant growth and total and marketable yield increased. Besides, while fruit diameter, red color (a), vitamin C and pH of fruit juice were increasing, titratable acidity, electrical conductivity of fruit juice and firmness decreased. Among to tested doses of Symbion VAM, the most promising result was taken from two fold of recommended dose (Dx2) which caused higher performance on marketable yield with 42.2 % increase compared with control.
