Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare desflurane and sevoflurane according to hemodynamic response, emergency period and postoperative complications. The study was conducted on 50 ASA I-II patients age between 30-65, who underwent direct laryngoscopy and biopsy. The patients were randomized to 2 groups. Following anesthesia induction with propofol 2 mg kg-1, alfentanyl 10 µg kg-1 and succinylcholine 1.5 mg kg-1 endotracheal entubation was performed with a 6-7-mm endotracheal tube. Group I (n= 25) received desflurane 4-6 % in 50 % N2O/O2 mixture; Group II (n= 25) received sevoflurane 1-2 % in 50 % N2O/O2 mixture. The heart rate, systolic arterial pressure (SAP), diastolic arterial pressure, SpO2 before induction, during entubation, and after extubation (at 5 minute-intervals until the postoperative 30th minute and then at 10-minute intervals until the 60th minute) were recorded. The time of extubation, recovery and postoperative complications were recorded. The patient characteristics, heart rate values and the diastolic arterial pressure values showed no significant differences. The SAP values increased significantly at the 10th and 15th minutes intraoperatively and after extubation in Group I (p
