Abstract

Aim: We aimed to compare the performance intubation efficacies of Airtraq and Macintosh laryngoscopes in normal and challenging airway management simulations. Material and Method: Two-hundred ASA I-II patients aged between 20 and 55 years scheduled for elective surgery were included in the study and they were divided randomly into 4 groups. Patients in Group A (n=50) were intubated with Airtraq, in Group AK (n=50) with Airtraq and cervical collars, in Group M (n=50) with Macintosh laryngoscopes, and in Group MK (n=50) with Macintosh laryngoscopes and cervical collars. The time to placement of the blade in mouth, to complete visualization the larynx, to the placement of the tracheal tube and the total intubation were recorded by an independent observer. The success rate of intubation, intubation difficulty score, users’ performance score and the observed complications were also recorded. Results: When compared with AK and MK groups, in Group A and Group M, time to the insertion of blade in mouth were shorter and intergroup difference was statistically significant (p
