Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify certainphysical fitness parameters of persons withIntellectual Disabilities (ID) in Kırıkkale. Researchgroup consist of 13-17 years-old boys and girlswith ID from Private Education and RehabilitationCenters in Kırıkkale. Nine tests (Skinfold measure,20 m shutle run, dominant hand grip strength, sit&reach, modified curl-up, flexed arm hang, shoulder stretch, bench press and body rise)which were derived from Brockport PhysicalFitness Test Battery were used to measure certainphysical fitness parameters of the sample group.Total number of 54 (72,97% of the universe)mild ID person from four Private Education andRehabilitation Centers participated in this study.Twenty one of this sample group were girls withmild disabilities (50-70 IQ and Xage=14,23 ± 1,37year; XBMI= 19,73 ± 4,88 kg/m2) and 33 were boyswith mild disabilities (50-70 IQ and Xage=14,54 ±1,48 year; XBMI= 22,32 ± 4,91 kg/m2). In order tofind out the relationship between Pyhsical Fitnesslevels, a Regression analyze was used. SPSS 17.0version with the 0,05 probility was used to analyzethe data. In the findings, it was found that physicallevel of girls increases with age, and also found thathighest physical fitness level for boys reaches at theage 14. According to another finding, the statisticalrelations between strength parameters and massand between mass, height and skinfold parametersare observed. Besides, it also is seen that there is nostatistical relation between age, height, mass andphysical fitness determined according to T scoresand 20m shuttle run test. As a result, it can be saidthat the physical fitness values of girls and boyswith Intellectual Disabilities show similarities.
