Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to investigate school administrators’ character education efficacy beliefs according to the variables which are gender, age, professional and administrative experience, marital status, the graduated faculty, level of graduation and level of the school administered. The research was conducted according to the survey model of quantitative research methods. The population of the study constitutes of administrators who work in public schools in İstanbul/Pendik District in the academic year of 2016-2017. 227 administrators were included in the study chosen by convenient sampling method. In the study “Administrator Character Education Efficacy Belief Instrument” was used. Since data were not distributed normally, the analysis was conducted by using Mann Whitney-U and Kruskal Wallis-H tests from non-parametric analysis techniques. It was concluded that school administrators’ character education efficacy beliefs did not show a significant difference in terms of gender, age, professional and administrative seniority, marital status, the graduated faculty, administrative position, level of graduation and level of the school administered. Conducting similar studies with different sample groups and variables is expected to contribute to the field of character education.

Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı okul yöneticilerinin karakter eğitimi yeterlik inançlarını cinsiyet, yaş, mesleki ve yöneticilik kıdemi, medeni durum, mezun olunan fakülte, mezuniyet düzeyi ve görev yapılan okul kademesi değişkenlerine göre incelemektir. Araştırma nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden tarama modeline göre gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu 2016-2017 eğitim öğretim yılında İstanbul/Pendik İlçesinde devlet okullarında görev yapan 227 okul yöneticisi oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada "Yöneticilerin Karakter Eğitimi Yeterlik İnancı Ölçeği" kullanılmıştır. Veriler, normal dağılım göstermediğinden Non-Parametrik analiz tekniklerinden Mann Whitney-U testi ve Kruskal Wallis-H testi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmada okul yöneticilerinin karakter eğitimi yeterlik inançlarının cinsiyet, yaş, mesleki ve yöneticilik kıdemi, medeni durum, mezun olunan fakülte, yöneticilik görevi, mezuniyet düzeyi ve görev yapılan okul kademesi değişkenlerine göre anlamlı bir farklılık göstermediği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Benzer çalışmanın farklı örneklem grubu ve değişkenlerle yürütülmesi karakter eğitimi alanına katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.
