Abstract

Autoimmune inner ear disease (AIED) is a cause of hearing loss that currently accounts for approximately 1% of all hearing loss cases and its etiopathogenesis is still not clearly defined. AIED may be associated with a systemic autoimmune disease or it may be-specific. Although Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is a very common autoimmune disease, its relationship with hearing loss is less known than the relationship between other systemic autoimmune diseases and hearing loss. Not only cochlear but also central hearing loss due to HT has been reported. No improvement in hearing loss was observed with treatment of thyroid dysfunction. In this article, we aimed to compile the data obtained from studies investigating the relationship between HT and AIED in the literature.
